This is a sort of an emotional event map of my day today. I referred to a “roller coaster” to describe it to a friend, but the more I thought about it, the more the Corkscrew came to mind. For those non-Minnesotan readers, the Corkscrew is/was a roller coaster at Valley Fair. I was terrified of it for years, but eventually was peer pressured into giving it a whirl in my early teens. I wouldn’t describe the experience as pleasant or fun necessarily, but I went several times in a row anyway. I think I did this mostly to solidify my relief that it wasn’t as bad as I had imagined it would be. The upside down portions were actually the best part, though they had been what I had feared the most from ground level.
